L’attrait de Paris pour les nouvelles générations
Vanessa Guo, anciennement chez Hauser & Wirth, a décidé d’ouvrir la galerie Marguo en 2020 et d’y présenter des artistes émergents du monde entier. « Le Covid a accru l’attention portée aux artistes issus de minorités. Les artistes asiatiques appartiennent à cette grande vague, aux États-Unis et en Europe. La France est en première ligne de ce mouvement, affirme-t-elle. Institutions, galeries, artistes, critiques d’art... Tous les éléments nécessaires à la croissance d’un marché sont présents en France. De plus en plus d’artistes s’installent, vivent et travaillent ici. » Dianna Settles, actuellement exposée à la galerie Marguo, en est un exemple représentatif. « Américaine d’origine vietnamienne, elle est exposée en Europe, explique Vanessa Guo. Son travail reflète tous ces différents aspects de sa vie, ce qui rend son œuvre spéciale à mes yeux. » Des artistes dont la production créative et la façon dont ils voient et interagissent avec le monde sont désormais interculturelles.

Vanessa Guo, formerly at Hauser & Wirth, has decided to open the Marguo gallery in 2020, showcasing emerging artists from around the world. “Covid has increased attention to minority artists. Asian artists are part of this great wave, both in the United States and in Europe. France is at the forefront of this movement”, she asserts. “Institutions, galleries, artists, art critics... All the elements necessary for the growth of a market are in France. More and more artists are settling in France, living and working here, and international gallery owners have been opening in Paris on a massive scale in recent years.” Dianna Settles, currently on show at Galerie Marguo, is a case in point. “An American of Vietnamese origin, she is exhibited in Europe”, explains Vanessa Guo. “Her work is imbued with all these links, and gives it a special aura.” Artists whose creative output and the way they see and interact with the world are now cross-cultural.
