Galerie Marguo (Paris) and COHJU (Kyoto) present a curated selection of works by six artists—three from each gallery—at the 2024 edition of Art Kyoto Collaboration. This collaborative exhibition aims to illuminate the harmonies and dissonances arising from the artists' diverse perspectives and techniques.
Galerie Marguo: Fawn Rogers (b. 1974, Portland, Oregon) raises questions about contradictions and dissonances in civilised society, often using shells reminiscent of female genitalia as motifs; Oh de Laval (b. 1990,Warsaw, Poland), known for a satirical painting style that is both pop-inspired and subtly evil, reflecting the influences of mass culture; James Prapaithong (b. 1996, Bangkok, Thailand), who focuses on the narrative and linguistic aspects of landscape painting, veiling personal memories and stories beneath the surface.
COHJU: Inspired by life and nature, such as the process and system of how plants grow, Mio Yamato makes organic images or installations through her simple body actions. Fumika Tsuchitori explores the relationships and distances between oneself and others with the poetic language of painting. Hal Matsuda uses VR and 3D printing technologies to expand the possibilities of art through reproduction techniques.
