There is a simplicity to time spent there, by the river, under a tree. I wanted this sense of peace and the warmth of those days to take center stage, the 2 figures blending in with the landscape they are momentarily inhabiting.
— Freya Douglas Morris
Freya Douglas-Morris studied Fine Art at Brighton University before receiving an MA from the Royal College of Art in 2013. She has work featured in ‘The Anomie Review of Contemporary British Painitng 2’ the ‘100 Painters of Tomorrow’ and ‘Paper’ Saatchi Gallery as well as various magazines. Solo shows in London, Milan, Edinburgh and later this year New York, she had exhibited internationally. She lives and works in London and as well as being a painter is mum to Harper Rose & Felix.
Freya Dgoulas Morris explains in her own words: "I've had this image in my mind for ages, a painting sometimes ruminates for a while before I make it. This is one of those images, partly based on a warm hazy memory from the previous few summers, half a present day longing to fast forward and be there, in a few months time, when this grey has passed and it is exactly as the title suggests, when everything is summer. I live in Clapton, by Hackney Marshes. It is a beautiful, wild space for such a London setting. There is one part that I especially love going to and whenever I am there, in my mind, I have traveled further than I have. The trees and long grass remind me of French landscapes, of paintings by Bonnard or Monet. When I was invited to do this show it felt like the right time to make this painting."
